1/28/2024 0 Comments Neptunes net hours![]() The chowder is very thick, almost doughy with creamy roux. A bread bowl full wouldn’t be a bad meal choice if you can resist getting something fried. New England clam chowder is very good, too no trip to Neptune’s should be made without at least a bowl of it. These juicy cakes are better on the sandwiches than over fries. Also included are rich creamy, almost sloppy, grilled crab cakes. The fries are medium cut and perfectly golden. The best way to go is to get the giant sampler and try everything over a mountain of fries along with a conspicuously tiny thimble full of coleslaw. Clam strips and fried scallops are average. The fish to eatįried whitefish is recommended too. The calamari has a different batter than the rest, flaky and tempura-like with large flecks of black pepper. The shrimp meat is succulent within and fried as crunchy as a potato chip. Of the options at the fryer, butterflied shrimp and calamari are the best. People line up for golden fried fish with a panko crust. Neptune’s Net has a large menu of sandwiches, fish tacos, burgers and salads, but the baskets of fried fish served over French fries are what keep the bikers roaring in. Unless you’re watching your weight, we suggest you focus on the hot kitchen. One serves fried and grilled food, the other only steamed and raw shellfish. There are two different counters with separate menus. We got home around 6 or 7pm and proceeded to watch TV and chill until we went to bed.Just over the Ventura, CA county line from Malibu is Neptune’s Net - since 1958, a destination where surfers and motorcycle clubs come to drink beer and eat seafood. The “one hour drive” ended up taking us two hours. It wasn’t until we were on the 10 that we ran into a ton of traffic due to an accident. With the exception of one asshole that was tailgating me, the ride back to Santa Monica was pretty smooth. We then braved death one more time to get back to the car and start the drive home. We ate on the patio and eventually, when we were done, decided to run across the four lanes of the PCH to get pictures of the coast and of the restaurant from across the road. It made me feel like an idiot but none of the bikers said anything to me when I walked in and I were soon distracted by my order of chicken tenders and Mexican Coke. I had to tiptoe my car around the parked bikes and embarrassingly make may way out to the car lot, hitting the curb as I did so. So fast in fact that I missed the correct entrance and panic entered the motorcycle entrance. I don’t know if I didn’t have good cell service or if Google Maps wouldn’t have given me a better heads up, but we cam up to Neptune’s Net real fast. The traffic seemed to let up as well and we were soon at the restaurant. However, shortly after entering Malibu, the fog burned off and we had great views of the coastline and the mountains. After first the drive was traffic-ey and covered in fog. There we got back in the car and headed to the PCH to take the 1 north to Malibu.Įver since watching The Fast and the Furious I’d been wanting to visit Neptune’s Net. We spent a short amount of time at the skatepark before walking up the boardwalk back to Venice Blvd. We walked through the Venice Canals for a bit before walking to the VENICE sign and out the the skate bowl just off the boardwalk. We got back in the car and I drove us to Venice Blvd where I was able to score free parking. Once at the far end we took 2nd Street back to the car, stopping briefly at Tongva Park along the way. We also came across some Magis Spun Chairs that I played around with for a bit. ![]() Along the way I got a good shot of a classic Porsche 356 A. We made our way into downtown Santa Monica before banging a left and cutting thorough all of the 3rd Street Promenade. As we continued south down Ocean Ave, I remembered that I wanted to show Kyra the 3rd Street Promenade. We had been draw like moths to a flame, to The Georgian Hotel a featured by Accidentally Wes Anderson. We then continued north through the beach parking lot to the bridge that crosses over the Pacific Coast Highway. Along the way Kyra stopped to get some coffee.Īfterwards we did basically the same thing on the boardwalk, heading south a short way before again doubling back. We went all the way to the end before doubling back. I let Kyra lead the way as she walked around and explored the pier. You couldn’t even see the Santa Monica mountains. I was a little bummed for her sake that the weather was chilly and overcast because it wasn’t great for pictures. We were able to find a metered spot on Ocean Ave not far from the pier. Kyra and I left my apartment at 10:15 and drove to Santa Monica.
